AUGUST  DE PUYSSELEIR

The traditional comparison between paintings and windows is well known, but when you look through the windows of August De Puysseleir, you are immediately lost in a world that is foreign to us. His desolate landscapes and solitary figures are so smooth and softly finished that you have difficulty believing De Puysseleir describes himself as a cultural barbarian. He actually taught himself the art of paining through trial and error.
His images are created spontaneously and quickly express surrealistic tendencies full of symbolism. For instance, the egg is a recurring feature, and symbolises the creation of new life.
He recently started a series of paintings about retro utensils he encountered during his childhood.
